FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Amidst growing secularism and attempts to denormalize religion,
Canadian youth continue turning to faith by embracing message of hope and mercy of Jesus Christ
Ottawa, Ont., September 13, 2016 – NET Canada, a leading youth ministry organization, is increasing its Canadian presence by opening two new offices this fall to serve Western Canada and Quebec. Amidst the increasing secularization of society and growing despair among youth, NET Canada exists to give hope to young Catholics through its retreat programs and support of youth ministry at parishes across the country.
"Sharing our faith and helping young people to know Jesus is the focus of our growing movement,” says Joe Vogel, executive director of NET Canada. "Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we’re now able to challenge even more young Catholics to lead a life of hope and virtue that has become increasingly counter-cultural. We are thrilled to be growing our presence as it means that we'll have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of a greater number of young people as well as the life of the local Church and communities."
NET Canada has been serving in Canada for the past 22 years out of its head office in Ottawa, Ont., and reaches more than 20,000 young people each year through its missionaries: 50 young adults from around world that are trained by NET to bring the Gospel message to Canadian youth. NET Canada's two new offices located in the Archdiocese of Vancouver and the Archdiocese of Montreal, which will serve as ministry hubs for the Western provinces and Quebec, are a part of the organization's five-year strategic plan to advance youth ministry in Canada.
The shift to a nationwide focus was a result of a series of 'listening tours' NET Canada undertook to better understand how key stakeholders, such as bishops and educational partners, felt that youth ministry could be improved.
"It's a true joy to see the light of Christ shining through the youth in their renewed faith and joyful attitudes," said Dan Potvin, director of stewardship and mission advancement. "We feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude that this expansion has been possible with the support of our donors as we work to form bold and courageous Catholic leaders who can effectively spread the Gospel message to the peripheries through following the call to respond to Jesus' sacrifice for us."
