To all the faithful of the Diocese of Prince Albert,
Greetings of peace and joy to you as summer comes to an end and we begin preparations for the fall season!
On October 21st of this year, Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha will be canonized as the first aboriginal saint of North America. This is no doubt, a great day of joy for the Church and for the First Nations people.
Being declared a saint is a great honor and it is for this reason a celebration is being prepared that will coincide with the actual canonization in Rome. I, therefore, invite you to participate in this celebration as your presence will be greatly appreciated. A Feast is scheduled to follow the Eucharist which will include singing, dancing, and drumming with a meal of stew, vegetables, potluck desserts, and bannock.
Celebration of the Canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha
Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00pm
Sacred Heart Cathedral, Prince Albert
Feast is to follow
Further details are available on the poster: 2012 October 21 Blessed Kateri Poster
Those parishes with services planned for that afternoon may be cancelled as this gathering will also include the Eucharist. I would strongly suggest that all come to be a part of this special event.
Let us come together, as one family, to give our thanks to God for having called Blessed Kateri to be St. Kateri!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+ Albert Thévenot, M. Afr.
Bishop of Prince Albert
